Lacquery is an art that has been practiced in Vietnam since the 12th century. Genuine lacquer has existed in the Far East for thousands of years. It is a living material whose value and beauty will increase with time.

Natural lacquer comes from the Lacquer Tree which grows in the province of Phu Tho, in Northern Vietnam.

ENTIRELY HANDMADE, these objects are the results of a thorough and long fabrication process which can last up to 2 months.

1. The wood is sculpted and covered with a first layer of natural lacquer.

2. The piece is then covered with gauze in order to prevent any risk of splintering.

3. A mix is then made of natural lacquer, dust from finely crushed rocks and alluvial earth. With a spatula, the lacquerman slathers the piece with a thick coat of this mix.

4. Left to dry, the piece is then bathed in fresh water and then polished with a pumice stone.

5. With a fine brush, the lacquerman then applies a coat of natural lacquer mixed with alluvial earth.

6. Operations 4 and 5 are repeated at least FOURTEEN TIMES.

7. The piece is entirely polished with wax.

8. Drawings and ornaments are painted by hand. Silver and gold finishes are applied one by one.
This is the main reason why each lacquer objet is
UNIQUE.
